The Bishop Paiute Tribe partnered with GRID Alternatives once again to bring clean energy to income-qualified renters in a 24-unit affordable housing and sober living community. The project extends solar savings to renters, a group that’s often left out of the benefits of going solar.

The 49 kW system is projected to save the community about $500,000 over the life of the system, with each household saving upwards of $600 a year. As part of the project, GRID trained 6 tribal members, building local clean energy skills alongside the installation. The system also helps make the local electric grid more resilient and lowers the risk of blackouts, while cutting 973 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

This is GRID’s second partnership with the Bishop Paiute Tribe, continuing a relationship focused on extending the benefits of solar to renters and Tribal communities.

  • The benefit to our tribe is the opportunity for our tribal members to have savings on their electricity bill, and I encourage any tribes who may be interested in going after the same type of funding and opportunity to bring it to their community and their tribal members.

What we brought to the Bishop Paiute Tribe Project

  • System Design & Engineering

GRID designed and installed the 49 kW solar system serving the 24-unit community.

  • Incentive Administration

GRID secured Tribal SOMAH funding to make the project possible. This project was also funded by Tribal Energy Alternatives, through a grant from the Sempra Foundation.

  • Formación de la fuerza laboral

This project was installed by our sub contractor partnership program with High Point Solar. There was one female tribal trainee.
