Yes. Qualifying homeowners pay nothing upfront and take on no debt. There are no credit checks, no liens, and no monthly payments. GRID Alternatives is a community-based nonprofit. We connect families with government programs like DAC-SASH, and Solar Works DC, and partner with utilities, corporations, foundations, and individual donors to cover the full cost of each system. Eligible families pay nothing.

Homeowners living at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) in eligible communities in California, Colorado, and the Mid-Atlantic region may qualify. In California, GRID also prioritizes households in communities identified as Disadvantaged Communities (DACs).

Where funding is available, GRID can bundle solar with battery storage, electrification upgrades, main service panel upgrades, and re-roofing to help clear common barriers to going solar. Availability varies by location, since funding for some of these services is currently limited.
