Job Seekers Hired at the 6th Annual Summer Solar Job fair
Standing out in a sea of resumes is a hard way to make a first impression with a company. With only a small amount of resumes even making it past the initial screening process, it can become exhausting waiting for any application response at all. On July 11th, 100 job seekers had the opportunity to make a different first impression, meeting in-person with 13 local hiring Solar PV employers at GRID’s 6th Annual Summer Solar Job Fair in partnership with the PG&E Pacific Energy Center.
Just a block down the street from the Intersolar North America conference, job seekers spent the day with solar PV employers, and hearing about opportunities within local companies. Not only does meeting in-person help you stand out in a crowd, it’s also a great way to find out about what skillsets are in demand, learn about the company culture and even pick up on how the industry players present themselves, including key terms and expressions.
Job seekers also had the chance to build soft skills through networking and resume reviews. With a passion for making connections, GRID’s volunteer resume reviewers would sometimes even walk a candidate right up to an employer and make a personal introduction. One reviewer, Alexis Cureton, remarked of one of the candidates, “If their resume was polished, and they could just get to talking with the employer, they’d be promoted before they were even hired!” The resume review is a popular workshop attended at the job fair annually. One job seeker shared of their experience, “the resume review was surprisingly helpful.” It’s a great combination to be able to meet an employer and follow up with a polished and adapted resume.
So far there have been at least 3 job offers made from the job fair and there are surely more to come.
Thank you to everyone who made the job fair such a success. Special thanks to PG&E’s Pacific Energy Center, all of the companies who attended the event, and our fabulous volunteers who donated their time to provide valuable advice to job seekers. Take a peek at the photos from the day here.
