Our Work

Supporting Energy Sovereignty in Tribal Communities

Supporting Tribal Nations in their pursuit of energy sovereignty through solar energy solutions, hands-on training, and community empowerment

GRID Alternatives has long supported solar projects in Tribal communities, ensuring sustainable development and long-term environmental health stay within the communities for generations to come. In early 2025, the National Tribal Program and Tribal Solar Accelerator Fund joined forces to become Tribal Energy Alternatives (TEA), GRID’s first Tribal-led affiliate, managed by Tribal executive directors, board members, and staff.

Tribal Energy Alternatives is GRID Alternatives’ first Tribal-led affiliate.

Tribal Energy Alternatives (TEA) partners with Tribal Nations to build energy sovereignty through grantmaking, workforce training, construction, and policy work. Rooted in Tribal values and led by Native professionals, TEA is creating opportunities for Tribal communities to lead clean energy initiatives and creating a cleaner more sustainable future for the next generations.
