Reaching milestones with Communities of Concern in San Diego

GRID Alternatives San Diego just celebrated the first year of our Single-Family Home Rehabilitation Program (SHR), reaching the milestone of completing upgrades on over thirty homes and preparing to work on another twenty projects. The SHR program is funded in part with Community Development Block Grant funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to the City of San Diego that allows GRID and partners Urban Corps of San Diego County, Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together San Diego to fully cover the cost of roof repairs. These types of rennovations have often been a barrier to families in qualifying for solar installation. In addition to no cost roof construction work and solar panels, GRID brought energy efficiency upgrades to homes in Communities of Concern by providing updated lighting fixtures, new low water use appliances, safety upgrades for seniors, and by insulating windows and doors.

Thanks to the GRID Outreach team, the SHR program is now fully subscribed with over one hundred applicants in the pipeline.

For more information on the SHR Program Contact: Angela de Joseph, Program Manager – adejoseph@gridalternatives.org

What do our clients have to say?

Lessie Brown (pictured here)

“Great opportunity for seniors to receive upgrades that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. The people did a wonderful job and were very respectful. Really enjoyed seeing the young ladies doing the construction. They climbed up on the roof and were not overshadowed by the men. They did it all. Supervisor watched over all of the workers really well. “God bless you!”

Alma Diaz

“I am very happy that I was given the opportunity to have the repairs done on my home otherwise I never would have been able to do the repairs because of the cost. I am so appreciative for everything that was done. The work was done and the crew were very helpful, trustworthy, and excellent at what they do.”
