The Greater Los Angeles Outreach team brought some of its familiar GRID Alternatives magic to North Long Beach over the weekend, where we held an informative multi-part workshop. Open to the community and attended by new homeowners and local leadership alike, our Saturday workshop started by posing some big questions to Long Beachers.

Do you live in a polluted community? Negative environmental impacts come in a variety of forms.

Do you have options at your disposal to deal with this situation?

What are steps you can take today?

As a community-based solar installer, helping people make smart, informed decisions armed with understanding is a top priority. Needless to say, our audience in Long Beach wanted to learn more. What followed was eye-opening for Northside crowd. We introduced them to resources linked to a variety of not-for-profit organizations; we explained GRID’s role, from bringing residential solar to those who need it most to training the next generation of solar workers; and we made our team members available to answer questions, in English and Spanish.

As communities like North Long Beach grow and gain strength, we know that their needs change. That’s why we were excited to take our newly-developed presentation to Long Beach, reaching exactly the sort of stakeholders in our audience who ought to lead the process of improving environmentally-disadvantaged communities! Long Beach’s Vice Mayor Rex Richardson, who was in attendance, said it really well.
