When you think of college spring break, you may think of adventurous road trips with friends, parties by the beach, or just catching up on sleep from the previous week of late nights studying for midterms. Instead, a group of 13 students participating in the Alternative Spring Break program from California State University, Fresno partnered with GRID Alternatives to lend a helping hand installing solar panels for two individuals in Fresno\u2019s downtown Lowell District. The Alternative Spring Break program gives opportunity for students to give back and empower local neighborhoods. Fresno State ASB students discussed their motivation to participate on the installs. \u201cMy experience has been great\u2026it is great bonding with the homeowner. She is a very sweet lady and I am glad that the install of these solar panels will help her and the environment. This is a perfect location and I hope it sheds light on this community,\u201d stated Angelica Robertson, team leader of the ASB solar project. While assembling the railing, Reynaldo Vazquez-a mechanical engineering student, eagerly stated, \u201cThis is a great way to spend my spring break\u2026giving back to the community and learning about how solar panels work.\u201d The ASB program continues to empower and shed light on underserved communities through their annual community service projects. <\/p>\n
