If you haven\u2019t heard \u2013 GRID Alternatives reached the milestone of 10,000 solar electric systems installed for underserved households nationwide.<\/a> This means more than 10,000 families have received reduced electricity bills with solar technology, while over 850,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions are kept from the atmosphere.<\/a> In the Mid-Atlantic, we celebrated GRID\u2019s achievement with a solar installation in Southeast DC.<\/p>\n

Homeowner Lottie<\/a>, a retired DC correctional officer, will save approximately $700 on her electrical bills annually with her new 4.2 kW solar system. She is especially excited to be an inspiration to others to go solar, too.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIf everyone had solar, can you imagine how great this place would be?\u201d she explains, \u201cWe would save money and we would really help the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The installation was completed in the traditional-GRID style: with volunteers<\/a>. April is Volunteer Month – and without GRID\u2019s enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers, we would not have reached this tremendous milestone.<\/p>\n

\"GRID<\/p>\n

Today, eight individuals joined our team on the roof and on the ground to complete the system \u2013 and for many of them, it was their first time volunteering with GRID.<\/p>\n

Tony, who works for the Environmental Protection Agency, likes that volunteering \u201cdemystified\u201d solar.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something anybody can do,\u201d he said, \u201cI learned a lot today \u2013 I like how involved the volunteers are in the process. We are actually doing it ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Dan, a government contractor – really liked how he was connected to the end result.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cJust seeing it at the end was really cool,\u201d he explained, \u201cI\u2019ve been looking to get into renewable energy. This is a great way to get hands on experience and help out the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
