On Saturday, October 10, 2015, the community of Pacoima, in LA\u2019s San Fernando Valley, hosted GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles 6th<\/sup> annual Solarthon. This vibrant community event brought together over 100 volunteers, sponsors, staff, homeowners, workforce trainees and community leaders to install no-cost solar systems for six families.<\/p>\n

The six solar electric systems, totaling 23.26kW, will bring $250,307 in total savings for low-income families over the systems\u2019 lifetimes, and prevent 513 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent of planting 12,072 trees.<\/p>\n

\u201cSaving money on my electrical bill is a huge stress reliever \u2013 there are so many bills to pay but any money saved will help with basic necessities like food and medical coverage,\u201d said Victoriana Camacho, a Pacoima homeowner who had solar installed on her roof today. \u201cIt\u2019s such a blessing having someone knock on my door and tell me about this program. Simply by answering my call, it\u2019s been possible to change my life and help make this world better.\u201d<\/p>\n
