Success and job satisfaction can be achieved even through challenging economic times. In late 2010, Neil found himself out of a job and he realized that he needed to break the cycle of feast or famine in the construction industry. He realized scratching through three recessions was tough on his family and thought solar installations would be a viable alternative to his prior experience as a framer.

Neil attended a 40 hour class on solar installation and was ready for work. Unfortunately, all the potential employers he spoke with had a common response. The solar companies wanted experience as opposed to classroom instruction.

Fortunately for Neil he remembered the resource page from his classroom instructions. There was an ad from GRID Alternatives promoting the job training program. He spoke with Adewale, a supervisor at GRID, who explained the program in such a way that Neil could finally see a permanent career for himself. Neil worked hard, achieving his first goal of becoming a team leader at GRID after seven installations. Soon thereafter, Neil was hired into a solar installation position.

After five years, Neil can look back and see the beauty of his decision to pursue a solar installation path. He has seen many faces successfully complete the program and move on to rewarding careers. Interestingly these people are not just construction workers. Neil has watched people who worked in areas from banking to students interested in community service become successful solar installers.

The advice Neil has to offer is simple, yet effective. If you are looking for a rewarding career, contact GRID. You will receive valuable training offered in a setting built on positive reinforcement. Neil knows the challenges facing workers today and totally believes, with hard work and dedication, it is possible for anyone to succeed.
