With an estimated 44,000 solar jobs in California, employment opportunities in the industry are becoming more abundant, but also more competitive. GRID is igniting the solar workforce, helping passionate job seekers build their resumes by volunteering at installs and attending solar workshops. However that’s not all GRID has to offer. GRID Bay Area’s Warehouse Internship Program asks candidates to dedicate 24 hours a week for 3 months, and in return receive in-depth training on warehouse management, solar site evaluation, and solar installation. Just like solar, the investment our interns make in GRID pays itself back quickly by opening the door to new job opportunities in the growing solar industry. We’ve seen this payoff come to our last three interns, who have all received jobs at local solar companies just after completing their 3 months with GRID. “Nothing can prepare you for the roof like time spent on the roof,” shares Joe McDonald, a recent Warehouse Intern who is now a solar installer with San Francisco-based Skytech Solar. “That I was able to step out of the internship and into a paid position is largely thanks to GRID’s direction and support.” Along with volunteer job placement, we see our internship program as another way that GRID is contributing to the solar workforce. We congratulate our interns and all the volunteers who have gained employment through their GRID experience, and look forward to continuing our mutual success in job training and placement. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about GRID’s warehouse internship program, please contact Bret Carr at volunteerba@gridalternatives.org or 510 731 1307.
