On Friday June 10th, GRID Alternatives completed its 1000th solar electric system installation for low-income families throughout the state of California. This milestone took place at the home of Ms. Celia Juarez as part of the Enterprise East Los Angeles Green Grant Program<\/a>. The 1.5kW solar electric system with solar panels provided by Yingli Solar<\/a> was installed with the help of the LA CAUSA YouthBuild<\/a> team.<\/p>\n

Ms. Juarez is a senior who often worked multiple jobs and night shifts to pay for the best education possible for her children . She now lives on her small social security check and volunteers regularly to help others in her own community of East Los Angeles. \u0093I care very much about our earth and keeping it healthy for my children, grandchildren, and future generations,\u0094 Ms. Juarez, the mother of seven, declared. \u0093I really appreciate this solar power system and how the savings will help me every single day.\u0094<\/p>\n

This 1000th solar installation from GRID Alternatives would not have been achieved without the support of our community partners, volunteers, corporate sponsors, and individual donors, and their steadfast commitment to empowering low-income families. Together we are making a change! These 1000 solar electric systems will generate nearly $25 million in energy cost savings over the systems\u0092 projected life spans, while preventing approximately 100,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In the process of installing these systems, GRID Alternatives has provided hands-on solar installation experience for over 6,600 community members statewide.<\/p>\n

We hope that you will continue to be a part of the larger GRID Alternatives family. We look forward to hitting the 2,000 homes installed mark in the not too distant future, and with such a great group of people we know that the spirit and mission of the program will be carried on wholeheartedly with as much if not more passion than ever before.<\/p>\n
